What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I loved the "generators" and could see that these could be used to quickly create eye catching marketing materials for the library - for Multiscreen, the website or flyers.
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
I think that this has forced me to look a little further at these technologies and tools and stop to consider how they affect the delivery of services for libraries. Being time-poor means that I am not getting exposed to this as much as a should be, and framing this in this way means that I had to make time...... sure my desk is still messy, but I priorotised.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I think we should have had the oppertunity to create more rich media content, and a link with a local TAFE or Uni may have given us access to recording tools to be able to create an podcast, vodcast or an interactive game ... .

#22 Audiobooks (or "The end is in sight ")
I found the site "Gutenberg's Audio eBook Collection" difficult to navigate and I never really knew what I was going to get. Mixing "restricted" titles with the free titles made the process disjointed.
I personally could not bear to listen to the computer voiced versions and was surprised at just how few "professionally read" titles there were.
I have heard of a project where people from across the world are reading copyright free material chapter by chapter, and then upload thier work to the central site. This is then available as a download to all . .. This can reduce the cost of a project like the conversion of guttenberg texts to a spoken format.
The creation of audiobook versions of stories from our emerging communities would be a powerful project. Especially for communities with little written literature, and low literacy levels in thier own language.

There was something about this that appealed to me, could be the geek bit, could be the library bit, could be the librarygeek bit . ..
i can see that podcases could create a great medium for the support of learning programs for libraries, for the syndication of marketing blurbs and updates, so that patrons can subscribe to us, and also powerful for the recording of community stories and content.

I can see youtube video being a great method of delivering library related content, such as storytimes, training session, community generated content, and silly videos . . .
This is a long standing favorite of my son Flynn. This is the first song he learned the words too, and he still mouths along to it . . .
He has moved on since the infamous rabbit and has developed a liking for all kinds of robot animals etc. . . particularly French automotive derived transformers. . . .

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

This site is a repository for embedible games that can be integrated and shared amongst sites. The part I like the most is the puzzle games as these have great potential as a basis for the implementation of games learning theory into libraries.
There is research into games as a learning platform, and with the games console generation, we need to consider this medium as offering another channel for us to become a part of peoples lives and to integrate learning content and context into this medium.
We also need to consider games as a communication channel for the community, and the development of a platform to facilitate the creation of simple games by the community, can be a powerful and receptive medium.
This site has a number of game genres but the true power is in the capacity to mashup and mix this into the content of your own site. . .

#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops
Zoho writes features are quite comprehensive.
I was able to import a variety of Word documents that were mostly rendered correctly. I loved the "Go offline" capacity that allows a cache of the last X number of documents to be automatically downloaded to my PC for when I am not connected to the net. I can then go back online and update my changes.
Offline is a popular option and has been incorporated into Google Reader via Google Gears and allows for those of us who go offline, ie on the train, or while on holiday.

Wiki's are grate for imposing a nice hierarchical structure to a subject.
These could be used as an open method to record the ideas of the organization. To collect a bunch of ideas and posts from staff over a selection of areas, similar to the Libraries Best Practice wiki but used internally and used to allow staff to express and discuss their ideas.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...
Library 2.0 to me is about the read/write web being used to open up conversation and to create community. Libraries have a benefit in that they have a physical space that the "community" can integrate with, it becomes a tool to facilitate the move from the physical to the virtual.
We also are "local" which enables us to understand and serve our community to a greater level, and by using our space we can create a loop that feeds our community into the online greater community, but also back to a physical space were face-to-face interactions can occur.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati
Hmmmm, the top searches were a bit dubious the top two linking to results related to porn or similar.
IT was good to see that they have a top 100 by "Authority" which cleans up the list a little.
The search is powerful and I will use this in the future.

#13 Tagging, folksonomies & social bookmarking in Del.icio.us
Looking at the tag cloud can assist you in quickly isolating tags that are related and are relevant. This can take you on a journey to seek similar bookmarks.
I could imagine this being used at the info desk to tag the bookmarks used here, both for internal staff use and also to be shared with our patrons. - it assists in collecting the wisdom of staff as they work through answering info queries.

I have been using a number of sites to check out reviews and other information on cars, as we are looking to get another one. So I thought it might be a good idea to create a searchroll to assist in doing this . . .

I love the way Kingston have integrated LibraryThing into their online catalog, using AMLIB Netopacs, the same product we use.
Here is the start of my bookshelf which is comprised solely of my partners books, as I cannot read.
We could upload our entire library holdings to LibraryThing, and/or create a set of new or featured items as another user, then have these automatically show on our site using a widget. This reduces the need to scan the titles etc.
